Ironman GNCC
October 28, 2007 - Crawfordsville, Indiana
I'm not sure what it was but it seemed like nothing could go right for me at this race. I guess it was just one of those days! My bike didn't start until about the 6th kick on the line so I was in the back early on. I was able to make my way up into the Top 3 by the end of the first lap but then everything just seemed to go wrong. For some reason I just couldn't get a clean, consistent lap in and it was very frustrating! Apparently I wasn't the only one having a bad day, however, because throughout the day I kept seeing some of the top XC1 riders having problems too! At one point I was in 7th overall even with all of my bad riding. I finally thought I caught a break on the 5th lap when I got hooked up with Jimmy Jarrett. I figured if I could just stay smooth and ride with him then maybe we'd be able to start working our way up the through the pack. Unfortunately that all ended when I crashed yet again and hurt my thumb. I lost a lot of time and was having a hard time holding on to the bars so I decided to pull in and not take any chances hurting myself further for no real reason. I absolutely hate quitting but at this race it just seemed like continuing on would have been pushing my luck and not something I should chance. I'll be looking forward to this race in particular next season as one I hope to redeem myself on.
