MSHSS Willow Creek

February 11, 2007 - Linton, Kentucky

I was a little nervous going into this race simply because I didn't know what to expect.  Being only my third time to ride this bike, I'm still adjusting to it after being on a two stroke my entire life. As you can tell by the pictures below, the bike didn't fire immediately off the line so I was a little behind on the first lap.  The first thing I realized about the course was how slick it was.  Even though the track looked okay, it was literally hard to even stay in control of the motorcycle.  I'm sure a lot of spectators were wondering why everyone was riding slow but if you tried to push it very hard, you were going down!  Actually I think virtually everyone went down anyways. The lead group ran pretty tight for a while and we were all taking turns sliding off the track.  I actually think putting studs in the tires may have been the way to go on this day!  By the time I gassed near the end of the 3rd lap I had been able to pull a little bit of a lead over John Maschino and Chris Bach who battled right to the end of the race.  I put it in cruise mode for the 4th and final lap and was excited to be able to win while I'm still learning the ins and outs of this bike. Former Two-time National Hare Scrambles Champ Doug Blackwell put in a solid ride for 4th. Broc Sims followed in 5th.  This was a good group of guys to race with and I look forward to hopefully doing more Mid-South races in the future!
